CHAPTER FOUR

There was a mystery man; that much was clear from everything they had read in all that had been saved from John Job's restaurant. He was simply addressed as Mr. Timothy Hogs, and on most receipts, it was written as Mr. T. Hogs. They ran that name through every search they could conduct in Deadwood and even South Dakota, but it was always a dead end. Raymond even got assistance from the FBI, but they found nothing.

That was when Marcus came up with a brilliant theory: "It's an alias. There's no Mr. T. Hogs," Marcus said, a little too confidently.

“What do you know? How can you be so sure?” Raymond asked.

Marcus chuckled. “Theo Bradly must be one crooked bastard. Can’t you see? He's playing with us. Mr. T. Hogs is an anagram for Mr. Ghost. All you need to do is rearrange the letters, and voila! He’s a ghost; he doesn’t exist,” Marcus said.

Maybe that made sense, but Marcus could tell Raymond wanted more. Whoever T. Hogs was, he was at the center of all their investigations. If they got to him, finding Bradly—wherever he was holed up—would be as easy as shelling peas.

Gina came up with another theory that, since most emails sent to T. Hogs reported what was going on, one could easily say that Theo Bradly made no single move without reaching out to T. Hogs. What Gina could not ascertain was how T. Hogs validated any of Bradly's suggestions before carrying them out. On Zach's abduction, the same letter had been written to T. Hogs a full week before it had happened, and that was what Patrick was sent to deliver. He'd claimed to recognize the parcel and was completely unaware of whatever its contents might have been.

They searched deeper to discover that not even Theo contacted Mr. Hogs frequently, and he doubted anyone had ever seen him. If there had been anyone who'd had the pleasure of Hog's company, it might be John Job, but he John Jobs did not look as if he was about to budge any time soon. He seemed to fear something was worse than a life sentence, maybe Zach's experience. Somehow, John knew there was no deal that they could offer him that would be enough to save his life from whoever the mystery man was.

Theo sent his propositions to T. Hogs, especially the hits his local henchmen could not handle. Hogs wrote back to John Jobs, and if Hogs liked what he saw, he would tell John what minion to employ for the execution. It was a chain, and from what they had seen, it was a very effective one at that. So, Job confirmed Hogs' order, contracted the killers, and paid them. Job was the middleman and the connecting link between the mystery man who truly owned the crime syndicate and Theo Bradly, who was his hands and eyes.

One big fish at a time!

They were going to focus on getting Theo. For the umpteenth time, they sat Jobs down for questioning.
